Over 45 years, a million miles, and countless lives touched — this is the story of Herb and Edi Hutchinson.
"We have had the privilege of seeing so many saved, healed, and set free. There is no way to count all that God has done as we simply tried to be obedient to His calling."— Herb & Edi Hutchinson
It all began in Searsport, Maine, visiting friends over a long weekend. That Sunday evening, as the service drew to a close, Herb and Edi went to the altar. In the middle of prayer, Pastor Brown spoke prophetic words — that God wanted to use them to reach thousands of people, "if" they would make Him the Lord of their life.
Returning home to Vermont, they didn't know exactly "how" the Lord wanted to use them — they just knew He wanted them to serve Him in a new way. So they bought a small, used sound system and started out, singing in nursing homes, small churches, and any gathering that would have them.
For Christmas that year they got their son Mark a bass guitar. Six months later, Jeff started drum lessons — and suddenly they were a full group: piano, bass, and drums. Wow!

For two years they ministered part-time on weekends while Edi taught school and Herb worked at a radio station. But the ministry was growing — more nights, more weekends, more miles. It came to a point where a decision had to be made.
With much prayer, they left their jobs and went full time. In 1980, with Mark and Jeff taking correspondence schooling, the family headed out across the country — Seattle, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, North Carolina, and beyond, all in a little Mercury Bobcat Wagon.
And God blessed. Soon the first old blue van came along, then their first new maxi-conversion van. God is good.
Through 1981, 1982, and beyond, they just kept traveling — ministering in every little church in every denomination throughout New England and beyond. The family saw America from the road, including stops at some of its most famous landmarks.
Mark and Jeff loved playing music and worked hard to develop their gifts, eventually surpassing Mom and Dad musically! In 1978 they had recorded their first of twelve albums — the first six in Nashville, Tennessee.

For years, the Hutchinson family ministered together as a complete unit — Herb and Edi alongside Mark and Jeff, filling stages in churches, tent meetings, and revival gatherings from coast to coast.
They ministered in the latter days of the Jesus Movement, and through the exciting 1980s when the Holy Spirit was being poured out on all denominations. Dozens of tent meetings in those years.
The van kept rolling west and back again. Over the years the Hutchinsons would log over one million miles of ministry travel — a number that speaks to decades of faithfulness and an open road ahead of them at every turn.
Each trip brought new churches, new faces, new stories of lives changed by the love of Jesus. The road was their calling and they answered it — again and again.

From their first recording in 1978 to their twelfth album, Herb and Edi's music became the soundtrack of their ministry. The first six albums were recorded in Nashville, Tennessee.
People were kind and kept buying more and more. The albums weren't just music — they were the fuel that kept the ministry moving, covering miles and opening doors across the country.
As Mark approached his 18th birthday, he felt the desire to begin planning his adult life. He stopped travelling and headed to Long Island. A year later, Jeff felt the same pull.
And then there were two. Just Herb and Edi — back to where it all began. Now in their 45th year of ministry, they have traveled over one million miles and continue to believe in the new spring just around the corner.

There is no way to count all that God has done as Herb and Edi simply tried to be obedient to His calling. What a great day to serve the Lord and be a part of what He is doing. All He asks is that we be laborers alongside Him — to see the harvest, and to be an important part of why we are here.
Thank You… Thank You… Thank You!
